When the Junior League of San Francisco chose a Mad Hatter theme for their annual Sustainers’ Tea, we knew color would be a key component in our design. The event was held at the Green Room in the War Memorial building, one of San Francisco’s historical landmarks. The Green Room features gilded edging, archways, columns and several gold and crystal chandeliers. We enhanced the feeling of the 1950s era by incorporating retro colors including carnation pink and bold coral. Gold mid-century modern Shoreditch chairs clustered around café tables with painted linens to add to the feel of a traditional high tea. Tufted velvet dining chairs in magenta and soft gray surrounded tables draped in blush silk. In keeping with the sense of abundance, we used three different combinations of candy colored Haviland china place settings.
Flowers brought the perfect finishing touch. Our floral arrangements included luscious blooms in every imaginable shade of pink and coral and two large brass urns filled with cherry blossom branches.
