This fun 40th birthday party was inspired by retro video games and a turquoise and purple color combination, two things the guest of honor loves most. We held the celebration in his family’s home and brought in everything we needed for the celebration, including a teal bar that was designed to echo the tile-matching video game, Tetris. Instead of a traditional guest book, we came up with the idea of creating our own version of Jenga. We set up an engraving station where each guest could carve their name onto a tile, ultimately creating a complete Jenga set that the family can use for many future game nights.
Since the birthday boy’s name began with the letter “A,” we wove an A motif through multiple elements of the event, including engraved whiskey ice blocks, monogrammed cocktail napkins, and an A-shaped back bar. One of his other favorite games is Joust, which stars a knight riding an ostrich, so we included purple and blue ostrich feathers in the tropical-inspired floral arrangements. Guests sipped on signature tiki cocktails and enjoyed a Southern-inspired menu, served family-style to bring everyone together.
